Dr. Scott Smilen is certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has held his New York State Medical License for over 25 years. He first completed a BA in Economics & Mathematics at Yale University before receiving his medical degree at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Scott Smilen then continued at NYU to specialize in ObGyn and Urogynecology. In 2013, he completed his Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Certification. His areas of interest include treatment of urinary incontinence, treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, surgical techniques in gynecology and obstetrics and medical and surgical conditions of menopause.
Dr. Scott Smilen holds an impressive resume with a breadth of experiences that include leadership roles as a mentor, educator and author. He currently is an Associate Professor, Clinical at New York University School of Medicine and Attending Hospital Appointments at Bellevue Hospital Medical Center, New York University Hospitals Center and Valley Hospital.
He is currently a member of 11 professional societies including his most recent involvement as the Vice Chair of the American Urogynecologic Society, Clinical Guidelines Committee and President of the Bellevue Obstetrics and Gynecology Society, and holds a membership with the Department of Urology at NYU as well as the Department of ObGyn
Dr. Scott Smilen also has been recognized with dozens of impressive awards and in 2013 received the New York Super Doctors Award (New York Times Magazine) and Top Doctors: New York Metro Area. In 2014, he accepted the award for Best Doctors in America and his most recent award in 2015 was the CREOG “National Faculty Award”.
Dr. Scott Smilen shares his expertise through his editorial positions with Contemporary Ob-Gyn – Puzzler Section Editor, Journal of SRL – Urology and CSurgeries – Section Editor of Urogynecology. He also has contributed to over 40 publications including his original reports and involvement with chapters, books and abstracts.
